What is Remy Hair?

Here's our terminology of the day: REMY

What IS remy anyways?

When you buy hair that is remy, whether it is virgin remy or remy yaki or some other type of curl, you will get hair where the cuticles all face the same direction.

Each strand of hair is covered by thousands and thousands of little overlapping scales, called the cuticle. Imagine fish scales. The cuticle is what provides protection to the hair.

Hair with a healthy cuticle will have scales that lay mostly flat against the strand of hair.  An damaged cuticle will have raised scales and will let in more water and chemicals, etc.

The advantage to buying remy hair extensions is that it will tangle less than hair that is non-remy. Because the scales of the cuticle are all facing the same direction, they will not hook onto one another as much and tangle less.

We decided to post this because there is a lot of misinformation out there.
